Description:
This lovely dirt trail winds through redwood, fir and bay forests on the west-facing slope of the Oakland hills. There is little elevation change (pretty flat) on the 2+ mile stretch. However, there are options for more energetic walkers: the Sunset trail drops several hundred feet down to the valley floor, then runs parallel to the Sequoia Bayview Trail, and then joins the fairly steep Wild Rose Trail or the Chaparral Trail, to connect with the Sequoia Bayview to return. Heavy rain cancels. Not likely this summer!
Where to meet:
Sequoia/Bayview Trailhead on Skyline Boulevard near Joaquin Miller Blvd.
How to get there:
From Rockridge BART, get on Hwy 24 going East.
Take the Hwy 13 exit going south.
Take the Joaquin Miller exit and turn Left on Joaquin Miller Road.
Turn left at the junction with Skyline Drive (left arrow at traffic light).
After about a half mile see the Joaquin Miller Trailhead on the left.
Park along the road.
Equipment or special clothing:
Wear sturdy walking shoes and dress in layers, bring walking poles if you use them, water, sun screen, a hat, rain or wind protection as weather dictates.
