Scammers and identity thieves target all ages from millennials to seniors.  Every day these criminals attempt to access the personal and financial information of unsuspecting victims.  Their means of capturing personal and financial information continues to get more sophisticated as technology changes.  While check fraud still exists, the increased use of e-mail, online shopping, and mobile payments opens additional channels for criminals to target.

Come get information on the types of scams, tactics criminals are using, and tools you can use to help detect and avoid compromising your personal information.  In this session you will hear about real life situations that have resulted in losses for both individuals and businesses. Together we will put together a list of best practices for handling your personal information.

Grant Shoaf Vice President and Area Manager for Mechanics Bank has spent ten years working with consumer and business clients.  His area includes Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco.  Grant also serves as the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce Board Chair and a commissioner for the City of Berkeley’s Loan Administration Board.

Joining the discussion will be Tony Strain-Flores, CFE, AVP and Corporate Security and Fraud Manager for Mechanics Bank.  Tony is a Certified Fraud Examiner and works closely with Mechanics Bank Branches on identity theft and fraud cases.   .
