Redwood Park Canyon Stream Trail

RSVP: Audre Newman , 510-548-0530 audrenew@gmail.com

When: Monday, November 23, 1:30 pm (approximately 2 hours)

Where:  Redwood Regional Park at Redwood Gate, 7867 Redwood Rd, Oakland, CA, Canyon Meadow Staging Area.

Open to: Members first

Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible on the easy option

Description:  Entering a magnificent redwood forest after winding a short distance through meadows with picnic areas, the wide paved trail becomes packed dirt, but still wide and with little elevation gain.  Here, along tiny Redwood Creek, arching bay trees, and lush ferns join the redwoods. There are several steeper and more challenging trails branching off from the Stream Trail which provide our moderate challenges.  Those not so inclined can stay on the Stream Trail and return by the same route.  One restroom is available along the Stream trail in the Canyon Meadow.

Where to meet: We will meet in Redwood Regional Park at the “Redwood Gate,” 7867 Redwood Rd, Oakland, CA. This "GATE" is located off the north side of Redwood Road about 2.25 miles east of Skyline Blvd. Turn Left into the park here, and follow the entry road past the kiosk to the LAST parking area, the parking space for the Canyon Meadow Staging Area.

What to bring: Binoculars if you have them, good hiking shoes or boots for the trails, layered clothing for variable weather, water, windbreaker, snacks. Hiking poles are optional, but a good idea for the longer option.

Directions: Take Hwy 13 south to the Redwood Road Exit. Turn left off the exit, and follow Redwood Road east, 2.25 miles past Skyline drive. Turn left into the “Redwood Gate.” The last parking area at the end of this access road is at the Canyon Meadow Staging Area. We will meet there.

COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS:
*Limit group size to 6 (including leader).  First 5 members to register before November 22 will walk together.  Additional walkers will be added if we have enough leaders to create a second group of 5.

*Hand sanitizer will be used at the beginning and end of the walk in lieu of hand washing.  Open restrooms can’t be guaranteed, so be prepared.  One restroom at the Canyon Meadow is open.
