Description: This is a beautiful walk we took 2 or 3 years ago. We begin on the West Ridge Trail, a well-maintained fairly flat fire road that traverses first through oak/bay woodland for 1½  mile.  Those wishing an easier, flatter option can continue on the West Ridge Trail as far as the Chabot Space and Science Center, and/or reverse our steps at any time to the parking area.
For the more challenging option, we drop into the valley of Redwood Creek on the Tres Sendas trail. On our descent we pass through magnificent towering redwoods on a good single track trail.  At the creek, bay trees arch over the tiny stream. Here the trail is packed dirt, but still wide and with little elevation gain, following Redwood Creek for a short distance.  We cross the creek and climb up to the ridge on the other side following the Eucalyptus and Phillips Loop trails.  3 miles, 600 ft elevation loss and gain.

Where to meet: We will meet in Redwood Regional Park at the Skyline Staging area. There is an accessible toilet here.  This is a popular park on weekends, so please allow extra time (10 minutes?) to walk from your parking space to the south end of the parking lot.

What to bring: Good hiking shoes or boots for the trails, layered clothing for variable weather, water, windbreaker, snacks. Hiking poles are optional, but a good idea for the longer option.

Directions: Take Hwy 13 south to the Moraga Exit. Continue on Moraga through Montclair and turn left at Snake Rd. After about 500 ft, continue straight on Shepherd Canyon Rd. (Snake takes a sharp left turn. Don't go there) Follow this for over a mile until you come to Skyline Blvd at the top of a steep hill. Turn right. After about 500 ft you will come to the Skyline Gate Parking Area on your left, 8498 Skyline.  If no parking spaces are available, turn around on Skyline and find a space along the road.

Carpools: If you need a ride or can give a ride, please "respond to all" on the reminder emal and give your location and contact info for a ride from your home or a convenient BART station. As a last resort, call or email Audre (audrenew@gmail.com, 510-548-0530)  PUBLIC TRANSIT: see AC TRANSIT by calling 511, or on the internet at 511.org.
