VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION
Saturday N' Sundaes
SATURDAY APRIL 9, 2016

Anyone stumbling into the room by accident would believe a time machine had magically transported them back to the 1950's. Posters of Elvis Presley and James Dean adorned the walls, and you could actually hear (maybe subliminally) the do-wop songs playing on the vinyl LP records hung from the ceiling. Happy party hosts wore poodle skirts, bobby socks, and letter sweaters as guests slurped ice cream drowned in rich dark homemade chocolate fudge at the 1950's vintage soda shoppe. Let’s not forget the traditional root beer floats! By early afternoon 60+ volunteers loaded their polka dotted cups with ice cream, sweet toppings (donated by Andronico’s) and hot chocolate sauce (home made by Member Volunteer Pat Ungern). The afternoon revelry included 1950’s trivia contest, raffle prizes and a photo booth. “Like, WOW”….. It was 1950 all over again, what a way to kick off National Volunteer Appreciation week.

Everyone in attendance agreed the Saturday N’ Sundaes Volunteer Appreciation party was a huge success despite the much appreciated drought relief early morning rain showers. Once again Pat Carvalho and her team of volunteers - Kate Brizell, Sam Duncan, Peggy Malley, Diane Meltzer, Brenda Orellana, Tricia Sullivan, and AV Program Manager, Andrea Mok came together to create a special experience for our valued Ashby Village volunteers.

Many thanks to you and the committee that organized such a fun party of appreciation for the volunteers. It is great to be appreciated for our efforts and in such a fun way. Who doesn't love the 50"s?? Thanks, Roger AND...

That was some ice cream social - reminded me of the old days of scooping ice cream, not wearing my poodle skirt, although I had one.  It was such fun seeing everyone hopped up on sugar and good conversation.   You and your committee must do the best village appreciation events of all the villages everywhere.  Such a class act.  Thank you for your creativity, building such a great team of event folks. Hugs, PS. AND...

That was a wonderful party!  It was so much fun.  The "quiz" was a terrific "ice breaker", the ice cream and toppings were delicious, your costumes delightful, everyone was having fun.  You're the best at pulling people together!

Lots of love, Audre
