Lake chabot

Lake chabot 2
Description: We will take the East Shore trail, a 3.7-mile out-and-back trail that can be shortened by simply turning around at any point. This is a very popular area for birding, road biking, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The paved path has only a 193 ft elevation gain, so should accommodate all work levels.  Restrooms and food to purchase are available on site.

While we each know our individual walking ability and limitations, having a cell phone with us is always a good idea, even though we can't promise reception on all AV Nature walks. We strive to have walk "leaders" available and encourage everyone to always walk with someone else for safety.

Where to meet: We will meet at the Marina Cafe deck past the parking lot and adjacent to the restrooms. There is a $5 fee taken at the Ranger gate, if you turn into the park, but  you can also park outside the Park on Lake Chabot Road, free of charge. Allow for time to get to the Marina Cafe.

What to bring:
Binoculars if you have them, layered clothing for variable weather, water and snack.  Hiking poles if you use them. Hiking poles are always good for stability, even on level ground and they provide some upper body workout, as well. Bring your cell phone, if you have one.

How to get there It is a 25 minute drive to the park from the Rockridge BART parking lot. Take Hwy 13 South and join 580 East. Drive on 580 East about 5 more miles to the Fairmont Drive Exit and turn east on Lake Chabot Road. The entrance is on the left and you can park along Lake Chabot Road at no charge. You may also turn in and drive to the kiosk for the $5 fee. 17936 Lake Chabot Rd. Castro Valley - for the closest navigational setting to the entrance.
See the map icon above - by the navigation address.
Transportation: Members can request a ride through the AV volunteer service program (please give them advanced notice), or members  may bring a guest who can drive you and join us on the walk. Members can log in and view other who are registered if you want to carpool.

Let's enjoy nature! See you on the trail.
