Lovely Montclair Railroad Trail

WHEN: Fri. March 27 for approx. 2 hours (allow extra time for paid parking, just in case!)

WHO: Everyone

ACCESSIBILITY: Easy level walk - good for all walk levels. Wheelchair/walkers doable. We suggest you have someone join you, who can accommodate your walk pace.

WHERE TO MEET and DESCRIPTION: We will meet behind the Parking Garage located at 6235 La Salle Ave (the trail can be accessed via steep ramp or stairs there) There is also another accessible entrance at 6211 Medau Place - go to the end, take the sidewalk to the right, go thru the tunnel and left and around to the trail. If you take that access point or if you find street parking, plan ahead to meet behind Montclair parking garage.

This easy loop walk starts by tracing a former rail line on a peaceful, paved, tree-lined path. We will do the out and back portion, which is level and we can turn around at any point.

We should be able to do the walk in 2 hours. Be aware of time constraints if you are in paid parking. Note: There are no restrooms on this portion of the walk.

WHAT TO BRING: Good hiker shoes and layered clothing. Poles for balance and stability are recommended.

While we each know our own walking ability and limitations, having a cell phone with us is always a good idea. Cell reception, however, is not always available on the trails. We strive to have walk leaders available and encourage walkers to always walk with others for safety.

TRANSPORTATION: 6235 La Salle Ave. Oakland for navigation setting. Going south on CA 13, take exit 4 for Moraga Ave toward Thornhill Drive, keep left at the the fork following signs for Moraga Ave.Thornhill Dr/Montclair District and merge onto Moraga Ave., turn left onto La Salle Ave. the parking structure is at the end. The structure uses ParkMobile or Pay in advance using your license plate # - first 30 minutes free - $2 per hour. There is an attendant on site to assist. You may try street metered parking in town, on La Salle Ave or Mountain Blvd.

Members who need a ride can contact the office for a volunteer driver, who may join us, or you may ask a friend to bring you and be your guest, as well. Members ( when logged in) can view other registrants for carpooling, as needed.
