When PoleWalking, you feel taller and more confident!  Experience a profound freedom of movement – as if you have 4 legs.

Learning how to use poles enables people to navigate everyday obstacles as well as improve balance, endurance, walking gait, agility and posture.  Variety of top quality poles and tips provided (including special poles and tips for balance).

Here are more BENEFITS of Learning Optimal Use of POLES for Walking, Exercise, Balance & Mobility

  • Achieve, maintain, even regain mobility
  •  Use your upper body muscles to improve strength and help preserve your joints
  • Reduce stress on knees, hips and spine
  • Achieve a more even gait & reduce risk of falling
  • Maintain & Restore spine function; improve bone density
  • Enjoy the outdoors, connect with your buddies and get great exercise!

Open your door – take a Pole Walk!  Add energy, stability and improved whole body movement to regular walking.  It is a great way to reduce risk of falling, strengthen muscles and improve bone density.  Optimal use of poles provides significant benefits.

Why Poles?

Our natural walking pattern is a diagonal pattern of opposite arm and leg, which enables spinal rotation.  This spinal rotation feels good and is good for the whole body. As we age, spine function diminishes, gravity acts, the spine compresses and we get shorter.

Using poles for exercise can actually enable spinal elongation because you engage muscles that support the spine - you’ll feel taller!   Engaging our upper as well as lower body muscles helps preserve our joints and staves off age-related shrinking!

Why Optimal Use?

Imagine being able to WD-40 your spine. Optimal use of poles is key to achieving their many benefits. Our natural arm-swing movement is one of the best ways to engage healthy spinal rotation and muscle recruitment. Non-optimal use can involve repetitive movement of the joints, which can cause stress, strain or injury.

During a class you will have the opportunity to try a variety of top quality walking pole models and special balance tips.  Learn which poles fit you best and will help you to achieve your mobility goals.  You’ll have the opportunity to learn skills that will enable you to improve endurance and your performance on a variety of gentle terrain (like curbs, driveways, etc.).  You’ll notice an almost instant improvement in your posture and your confidence will grow as you practice gentle walking, gait and balance exercises.  This is a very easy-paced class with lots of opportunities to rest.

Who will benefit from taking a PoleWalking class?

Walkers, and anyone with mild to moderate mobility issues/challenges benefit from learning these skills. Additionally, this class will benefit anyone preparing for or recovering from joint surgery as well as those with Parkinson’s, MS, peripheral neuropathy, arthritis, diabetes, etc..  The mobility class is not for hikers – hiking with poles is a different class on much more varied and challenging terrain.

The triple win of poles is that (1) you’re able to engage your whole body while walking and (2) you can connect with your buddies while (3) enjoying the beautiful outdoors.  Consider taking a PoleWalking class to experience the profound feeling of freedom that comes with learning optimal pole use.

Class Size Extremely Limited. RSVP/register ASAP to: 510-204-9200 or info@ashbyvillage.org
