“I hope they develop a stronger sense of community, build some friendships, and have a chance to share some of their stories and enjoy the creative process,” said instructor Jennifer MacGregor Dennis describing her workshops.
Jennifer and her colleague/assistant Aedan studied with Anna Halprin at the Tamalpa Institute. Halprin was a pioneer of post-modern dance, combining dance, theater, and therapy.
Participants at the December 14 introductory workshop had the opportunity to dance, exploring the feelings of movement and interacting with others. The participants then expressed what came up by drawing with colored crayons. They shared their drawings and feelings with others in the class. All of this was done in a spirit of playfulness and curiosity, a key to Jennifer’s work. One common theme was dealing with the limitations aging imposes on movement and the body generally.
The workshop was an introduction to the Life–Art Process Series, to be held January 16, 23, and 30 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at Ashby Village, with one more class to be scheduled later.
